It is a song about a man who, despite his share of misfortune, has a path forward, a path granted by a higher spirit. At the moment, Julia Thomsen can do little wrong, and she is strengthening her name in the classical scene and the electronic worlds thanks to her most recent EP, ‘Senses’.
Although we are familiar with the original versions of these pieces, producer T mo’s remix breathes fresh life into them, making them feel like brand-new additions. Moreover, T mo contributes to the creative ideas initially flowing from Julia and blends both classical and electronic genres seamlessly.
Hello, Lady Marga, Let’s talk about your new single, what is the meaning?
Well, the song is called ‘Never Can Give You Up System Addict Janski Mix’ and its features my cousin Doris who is the original member of the legendary 80s group Five Star. The song is a remake of my cousin’s five star top hit song, ‘System Addict’. The meaning well every one is a system addict these days meaning everyone is stuck on their phones, computers, laptops etc so the song is just talking about us being system addicts obsessed with technology.
Which artists in the current industry inspire you the most?
My cousin, five star, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Basement Jaxx.

What is the best thing about being a musician in 2022?
There is so much opportunity, as in you don’t have to be signed to a major label to make it anymore. Put in the hard work and you can achieve so much.
Is there a certain place you often go to write? E.g a certain room, or environment?
No, not really. I can write anywhere, but if I have to choose one, it’s my bedroom.
What is your first memory of music?
I remember listening to Michael Jackson. Well, every time I used to hear Michael Jackson, I would stop whatever I was doing and start singing. From the age of 3, every time Michael was on the TV, I would go straight in front of the TV and just watch. I also grew up on a lot of reggae music, Motown, and pop.

The group continually proves why this genre of music will stand the test of time, and they excite us time and time again. Also, each group member rises to the occasion with full force as the electricity flowing through the track throbs.

Jimmy Wayne, the golden boy but with a secret like no other, leads us on a wild expedition through his life, and it is a story that a lot of musicians will relate with, apart from the crime section, of course. If you haven’t read the book yet but want to get a sense of what’s going on in Wayne’s crazy existence, listening to the soundtrack will provide you with plenty of hints.
It is not often that we review soundtracks here because that is not typically our thing. Usually, we find them a bit crap, but this one struck us as being a little bit unusual and it tickled our fancy. It could be a standalone album in is own right and that is what makes it so convincing!

Hello, Saskia, Let’s talk about your new album, ‘Together In Love And Separation’, what was the inspiration for creating the album?
Chandra Chakraborty reached out to me having heard of me as a folk singer and invited me over to play music together, tempting me with the offer of dinner too – how could I say no? Once we started playing we knew we had something beautiful and unusual here and set about creating an album project right away to show the world!
What was it like working with Chandra Chakraborty?
Chandra Chakraborty is a truly extraordinary human being. She moved in with her musical guru’s in her teenage years and they even helped arranged her marriage. In her culture it is extremely rare to find women who are empowered to perform and sing throughout their lives and music is not just a fun hobby for someone like her, it is something she dedicated decades of her life to, gave up living with her family for and it exists within a spiritual tradition. Without making a fuss about it, all of that tradition, that sacrifice, that intense dedication and spirituality is fused into who she is and how she performs and it has been an honour and privilege to work with her.

Which composers in the current industry inspire you the most?
I am inspired by strong female vocalists of the western folk traditions, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Eva Cassidy, Gillian Welch to name but a few.
Is there a certain place you often go to write? E.g a certain room, or environment?
I like to write on my boat. I find the peace and quiet of nature to be my best inspiration and while my boat is nothing fancy, floating on the water surrounded by trees and birds and knowing that no-one can hear me makes me feel safe to experiment. I will accept the living rooms of friends as a close second and of course, recording studios as a third favourite.
What is your first memory of music?
Titanic! Remember the song ‘Near, far, wherever you are…’ – my earnest little 5 year old brain absorbed that song and I used to hum it to myself hoping someone would hear me and think it was nice and ask me to sing it properly. They almost never did but I grew a somewhat secret obsession with singing that only came out in my teenage years.

Hello, Rofi James, Let’s talk about your new single, ‘Who Am I To You?’, what is the meaning?
This song is written about a scenario where you’re out with a group of friends and the person you’ve been dating is flirting with someone else. You desperately want them to stay with you but at the same time you want to know what your relationship status is.
Which artists in the current industry inspire you the most?
We’re influenced by several artists at the moment including One Republic, Imagine Dragons, Stereophonics and many more.

What is the best thing about being a musician in 2022?
After two years without the ability to perform live, the best thing about being a musician in 2022 is definitely the fact that we can play shows. It’s an amazing feeling hearing your song being sung in a crowd at a show, or on the radio. Playing live is extremely rewarding, and one of the most enjoyable parts about being a musician. It’s also extremely fulfilling putting pen to paper and writing a song that means a lot to you, and even more so when you hear how it has affected or even inspired\helped a stranger during a difficult time in their lives. There can be a certain ‘magic’ in the room sometimes when a group of musicians get together and perform, everything clicking in place, an audience connecting with the band on stage, and energy exchange going from the band to the crowd and vice versa.
Is there a certain place you often go to write? E.g a certain room, or environment?
It varies, Ronan usually comes up with a hook or a chorus which could come to him at any moment and we all usually go out to our producer Dave Skelton’s studio and piece the song together with the larger production in mind for the track.
What is your first memory of music?
Ronan’s family are all musicians and have always had music in his home since he was a child, his Dad took him to his first gig when he was 10 to see U2 in Croke Park. Jamie’s earliest memory before learning the drums was hearing ‘Money For Nothing’ by Dire Straits and ‘Run To You’’ Bryan Adams and instantly wanting to learn an instrument. Joe is a massive RHCP fan and was instantly drawn to the bass guitar after hearing their music.
